Women's epee team claims silver medal

Korea failed to add another gold to its medal haul on day four of the Tokyo Olympics, Tuesday, winning two silver and a bronze.
The women's epee team finished in second place, while the taekwondo squad's woes continued winning just one silver and one bronze
As of 10 p.m., Tuesday, Korea ranked sixth in the medal table with three gold, two silver and five bronze, behind the United States sitting atop the standings.
On Wednesday, the top-ranked sabre team in the men's fencing will chase an elusive gold, after having already claimed silver and bronze.
In fencing, the women's epee team came up short in the final, losing to Estonia 36-32 at the Makuhari Messe Hall B in Chiba, east of Tokyo.
The lesser-known Korean squad, comprised of Choi In-jeong, Kang Young-mi, Song Se-ra and Lee Hye-in, advanced to the gold-medal bout after upsetting top-ranked China 38-29, raising hopes for the nation's first Olympic gold in the discipline ― Korea also won silver at the 2012 London Olympics.

In the final that consisted of nine three-minute individual bouts, the Korean fencers were tied at 26 until the penultimate round, but Choi, the world No. 2 in the weapon who crashed out in the individual event earlier, still struggled to find her form and allowed 10 points to Katrina Lehis, the bronze medalist in the individual category. Lehis scored the first three points of that bout to put Estonia up 29-26, and the Europeans never looked back.
Entering the Tokyo Games, Korea had been looking for multiple gold medals from the sport, but has managed just one bronze medal from Kim Jung-hwan in the men's individual sabre before the epee silver.
In taekwondo, Lee Da-bin reached the final of the women's over-67 kilograms, where she fell to Milica Mandic of Serbia 10-7.
Lee, who was through to the gold medal contest after beating top-ranked Bianca Walkden of Britain with a buzzer-beating head kick in the semifinals, raising hopes that she would stop the Korean taekwondo gold drought in Tokyo, but to no avail.
In the men's over-80-kilogram match, In Kyo-don captured bronze after edging Ivan Konrad Trajkovic of Slovenia 5-4.

In archery, teen sensation Kim Je-deok, who has bagged two gold medals in the mixed team and men's team events, had an unexpected early exit in the men's individual competition after losing to Florian Unruh of Germany 7-3 in the round of 32.
"This may have been due to pressure or some factors that I couldn't control," Kim said. "In the team event, I could lean on my teammates and follow their lead. I was all alone today, and I only had myself to trust. Something was missing."
In the wake of the elimination, the 17-year-old also saw his hope for becoming a triple gold medalist dashed. Now, fellow Korean archer An San, who also won two gold in the women's and mixed team events, is the lone athlete in pursuit of the ambitious goal. Her gold chase begins Thursday.
