SBS's new variety program, "Team Up 072," starring actor-singer Lee Seung-gi and comedian Lee Kyung-kyu, aims to attract people to play golf by showing off the charms of the game, according to the producer.

"The visual scenery of the show is beautiful and people will be able to see great golf swings, including ones by pro-golfer Yoo Hyun-Ju," Lee Kyung-kyu said during an online media conference for the show, Friday. "There are a lot of golf variety shows lately, but our show has its own way to offer fun through the sport, golf."

Along with the actor-singer and comedian, baseball legend, Lee Seung-youp, and golfer Yoo will join the show as hosts. The show invites different guests to pair up with each host to play golf in teams against each other.

The first episode, which kicked off Friday, showed the hosts and their partners play against each other, and evaluate each other's skill.

The show's producer, Ahn Jae-chul, said the four hosts, with different levels of golfing skill, were one of the factors that made the show stand out from other golf shows, such as, "SeriMoney Club" and "Golf King."

"Lee Seung-gi is probably the best 사설토토 of most golf enthusiasts. He has missed swings but also hits really wonderful shots too. So beginner golfers will be able to resonate with him," the producer said. "Lee Kyung-kyu is called the god of golf so (viewers) will be excited to see how he does in the show. Lee Seung-youp shows powerful long shots, as a former slugger with Asia's home run record… and Yoo will provide tips as a professional golfer.

The producer added that the program will also show people that golf can be a team sport too.

"Many people think golf is played by single players, but when two people come together as a team, there is this sense of a mind game (while playing). It is refreshing," he said. "We play 18 holes in one round, so at first, we were worried how we would make that into a show, but there are a lot of unexpected dramatic moments, so I hope people will enjoy that."

Lee Seung-gi, who is a beginner at golf, hinted at a love and hate relationship with comedian Lee Kyung-kyu on the show.

"I haven't found the real fun of playing golf yet. When I was participating on the show, at first, I wanted to quit playing and just go home… when Lee Kyung-kyu laughs at me and seems really to enjoy seeing me play badly, I really want to go home," he said, adding that he is learning a lot about variety shows by working with him, as the comedian has extensive experience.

Lee Seung-youp, who is taking a stab at TV work for the first time, said he is also learning many new things from the show. "I wanted to experience something that I never have before, and now I'm learning a lot too," he said. "When I started golf, I thought I could just master it quickly. But now I've given up. It is a really difficult sport that needs a strong mentality. I have come to really respect golfers now."

"Team Up 072" airs on SBS Friday at 11:30 p.m.
